LOKSATTA FIELDS ‘APARICHITUDU’

(Media release, 22/05/08)
The Lok Satta Party has fielded “Aparichitudu”, a movie character, in flesh and blood to undertake a campaign against political corruption as part of its by-election campaign. Attired in black and sporting flowing hair, he makes the point that by voting for the Lok Satta Party, people can bring about changes in the polity. There is no need for an "Aparichitudu" who in the movie indulges in retribution for corruption, in a democratic setting. The road show of “Aparichitidu”, like the movie, is a resounding success and has become the talk of the town .

  2. Salt Water Infrusion in Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh

Due to Construction of various Dams across Krishna and Godavari basins, The flows into sea (Bay of Bengal) has dwindled considerably. The resultant impact on the coastal belt is evident from the fact, several wells yielding sweet water till late 80' have now turned brackish. This impact is fast spreading to mainland, This salt water infusion has effected loss of drinking water sources in some of villages on the coastline. The lands are getting converted to barren lands, even gracing lands are getting affected. Desertification of the coastal belt will be a reality during this century itself. Added to this is the climate change, raise in sea water level due to glacier melting, the cumulative affect will totally pain the sustainability of the millions of poor people along the coast line in the very near future.
Every politician looks to the water going to sea as wasting of water, whereas the fact is, this very flow saved the slender balance for retaining sweet water regime.
The marine pound survives and flourishes due to the raise and fall in sea water salinity. while there is raise in salinity during summer, the fall in monsoon is not considerable.
This is manifested in the lower regeneration of marine fish. This has already severely effected the fishermen folk in the coastal belt.
Release adequate sweet water from both valleys into sea during monsoon is very important to mitigate the problem.
We now raise this issue because, the people with regional interests will tend to construct more structures, impound sweet water at upper valley zones without any consideration and will permanently damage the slender sweet water regime.
This will result today some kilometers from coastline but the day is not far when it starts spreading fast and wide.
Hence before bifurcating the state this import issue to be addressed.
for more details can have details from SGWB & CGWB may be referred to)
